I can't think about it anymore without being reminded of people calling me stupid and crazy for not shipping Erik/Christine, people saying I wasn't a real fan for liking Raoul, people constantly bashing Raoul, people excusing and even romanticizing Erik's behavior, and people victim-blaming Christine. It's as simple as that.<br /><br />I never liked Severus Snape because he tormented innocent children over whom he held authority, and because he believed Lily owed it to him to return his feelings, even after she stopped being friends with him, even after she married someone else, even after she <em>died</em>. I can't entirely sympathize with Erik because he believed he deserved to have Christine, even if that meant deceiving her, manipulating her, and forcing her to stay with him for the rest of her life. On the other hand, I love Holden Caulfield because while he had a very cynical view of most things, he didn't believe he deserved to have anything meaningful in his life.<br /><br /><img src="https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/commentcount?user=betweensunandmoon&ditemid=46153" width="30" height="12" alt="comment count unavailable" style="vertical-align: middle;"/> commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2016-08-25:2542338:45737Fanfic Year In Review2020-01-07T19:07:54Z2020-01-07T19:07:54Zlazypublic1<span class="cut-wrapper"><span style="display: none;" id="span-cuttag___1" class="cuttag"></span><b class="cut-open">( </b><b class="cut-text"><a href="https://betweensunandmoon.dreamwidth.org/45737.html#cutid1">Read more...</a></b><b class="cut-close"> )</b></span><div style="display: none;" id="div-cuttag___1" aria-live="assertive"></div><br /><br /><img src="https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/commentcount?user=betweensunandmoon&ditemid=45737" width="30" height="12" alt="comment count unavailable" style="vertical-align: middle;"/> commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2016-08-25:2542338:41149Fanfic Year In Review2019-01-08T16:22:45Z2019-01-08T16:22:45ZMy brother playing the piano.stressedpublic8Got this from <span style='white-space: nowrap;'><a href='https://igenlode.dreamwidth.org/profile'><img src='https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom; border: 0; padding-right: 1px;' /></a><a href='https://igenlode.dreamwidth.org/'><b>igenlode</b></a></span>. <br /><br /><span class="cut-wrapper"><span style="display: none;" id="span-cuttag___1" class="cuttag"></span><b class="cut-open">( </b><b class="cut-text"><a href="https://betweensunandmoon.dreamwidth.org/41149.html#cutid1">Read more...</a></b><b class="cut-close"> )</b></span><div style="display: none;" id="div-cuttag___1" aria-live="assertive"></div><br /><br /><img src="https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/commentcount?user=betweensunandmoon&ditemid=41149" width="30" height="12" alt="comment count unavailable" style="vertical-align: middle;"/> commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2016-08-25:2542338:40545For the last fucking time, people:2018-12-16T02:07:39Z2018-12-16T02:12:57Zangrypublic0<em>The Phantom of the Opera</em> is not a romance.<br /><em>Dracula</em> is not erotica.<br /><br />Erik and Count Dracula are VILLAINS, not romantic heroes. But I'm no better at writing Christine in character than she is and my ideas are all just as terrible, so what right have I to judge her? And I can't help envying her dedication--she wrote forty-three chapters out of what was to be a forty-five-chapter fic, and they weren't short chapters! Had she not vanished off the face of the Internet, I have no doubt that <u>Erik, the Date Phantom</u> and <u>The Mask and the Slipper</u> would have ended up being of similarly epic length. I, on the other hand, tend to lose interest after a few chapters, if I start writing at all.
