At a guess? It's been around a long time (the last few pages of reviews are mostly of the PLEASE UPDATE variety, and older fanfics received a much higher proportion of reviews per chapter), and it fulfils fantasies of both the fandom ("Raoul was so twisted you couldn't believe how evil he was") and the heaving-bosoms/rape-and-violence kind.
I suspect this review sums it up:
Really, this story is just another fic out of many on this site that are written merely for sexual gratification, right from the beginning. There's so much emphasis on making out there's little character development and story.
Please, please people. There is much more to Erik than his broad muscular chest and intense amber eyes. He is a man with deep scars and a dark past. But somehow, that is hardly evident in this fic, though it did try to tell us he is traumatized by the past. Same with Christine. She is your typical, submissive female heroine who gasps and bows and pouts at everything her guy does to her, completely controlled by her environment and her love. No backbone, which I dislike immensely.
I'm sorry if I'm too blunt, but I just want to be straightforward for I have read too many fanfics written merely to satiate their sexual fantasies between characters from books/movies.
Yes...and you know what? and so is falling in love slowly. If Erik falls in love at first sight with Christine (or so it seemed like it), what's there to develop? The work is pretty much cut out for the writer to do any development. And apparently, what's left to develop is only desire and lust, elevating to the point when they will sleep with each other. Wow, what a touching romance.
