It sounds as if your aging Jack Sparrow would be another Charles Muntz-type figure, like my superannuated Hans. Although perhaps more delusional about his past glories and less actively spry and dangerous, by the sounds of it...
It's a potentially interesting idea, but my impression is that it doesn't particularly need Amelia in it -- I mean, the protagonist could just as well be a Jack Hawkins-type figure (apart from the fact that fanfic likes teenage female protagonists, for obvious reasons). The story would be *about* Jack, and the other character could be pretty much anyone. (I'm suddenly imagining a crossover with the Igenlode of "Treasures of the Indies"! :-D)
