The original 1924 edition of The Boxcar Children looks more interesting than the 1942 edition everyone's familiar with; I wonder if it's available anywhere.
Speaking of which, I came up with a gangster AU for it. The AU itself is set in the 1920s. Grandfather is a gang boss who pretends to be a respectable businessman, but is secretly a bootlegger. Henry, Grandfather's designated heir, doesn't want to choose between his conscience and his love for his grandfather, but knows he will eventually have to.
Enter my OC Frank Mitchell, one of Grandfather's men who has recently gotten out of prison, is sick of the whole gang business, and wants out. Frank and Henry recognize kindred spirits in each other, but neither can find a good solution to their problems. So that's the central conflict.
The fic will also feature the triumphant (?) return of Larry from The Lighthouse Mystery and Jud and Troy from Bus Station Mystery. Because I miss them.
I've learned I'm not one of those people who can write without an outline, so I should probably outline Ghost Ship before I write any more of it.
On the other hand, the Eragon rewrite is all nice and outlined, but the first chapter has come to a standstill. That's all right with me, since I'm not really interested in that fic at the moment. I'll come back to it someday. Maybe tomorrow, given my attention span. :P
New PotO fic is going well. I've decided not to post the first chapter until I complete the second chapter, not post the second chapter until I've finished writing the third chapter, and so on and so forth. That way, I'll always have one chapter on reserve.
