I don't like writing fanfiction.

Writing in general is painful for me, but I'd rather make up my own worlds and characters than worry about getting someone else's right. It's less stressful that way.

I enjoy the intellectual exercise of trying to tie details back to prior canon events, but of course you can do that with 'real' historical fiction as well...
