I liked "Charge of the Light Brigade" -- as Hollywood history films that bear no relationship to real events go, it has the immeasurable advantage of not being an American flag-waver :-p And it has David Niven, Patric Knowles and Donald Crisp in it...
I certainly liked it vastly more than "The Sun Also Rises", which was a massive disappointment. Did you ever see "The Roots of Heaven", which was (in my view) an immeasurably better film, both in terms of Flynn's performance at that stage of his career, and in terms of its appeal overall?

I liked "Charge of the Light Brigade" better than "Captain Blood" (at least back when I last saw it), partly --probably mostly-- because Flynn is a much more accomplished actor by that stage, and partly because I really like the themes of the noble hero who gives up the woman he loves to the man she loves (unless he's Erik, who isn't noble :-p) and of betrayal and revenge.
The embarrassed grinning in "Captain Blood" is a bit... embarrassing :-(

Why did you do that to yourself? It's a boring film, and seeing Flynn and Power reduced to shells of their former selves is downright depressing!
Because everyone said what a wonderful film it was and how great Flynn was in his comeback role -- it wasn't, and he wasn't :-(
Even if he had been great in it I don't know that I would have liked it, but his part is unmemorable and he does nothing to make it more so.
As opposed to "Lilacs in the Spring", where he has a minor supporting role and makes it into one of the highlights of that film, "Master of Ballantrae", where he pulls off a convincing swashbuckler role despite his physical condition, or "The Roots of Heaven", where he has a minor supporting role in a powerful offbeat film and makes us care about the character...
