I've wanted to see it ever since I first read The Phantom of the Opera at the age of thirteen, and I wasn't disappointed. This particular production was set in the present day, with Faust as a tech mogul and Marguerite as a bartender (though I'm not sure how well that worked in practice, given that getting pregnant out of wedlock and abandoned by the baby's father, while unfortunate, doesn't carry nearly as much stigma as it did in the 16th century, or even the 19th), and according to the program, restored the spoken dialogue that was cut from the original production and several other pieces that aren't typically heard today, such as a Valentin/Marguerite duet and a scene between Marguerite and Siébel.

The one thing I didn't like was the set design, or lack thereof—I didn't know Marguerite was supposed to be in prison in the final scene until the other characters referred to her as being locked up, since the stage was empty except for a window and a ladder!
