And it's probably a big pile of pretentious bullshit. But I don't care about that right now. I'm free to post again! Yay!

That's the one thing I hate about Dreamwidth. It only allows you to work on one post at a time.

You don't have to write your posts inside Dreamwith's submission box (in fact, it's safer not to -- I once spent about eight hours working on a very personal message, and the site told me the page had timed out when I tried to post it...)

You can just paste them in when they're ready.

That sounds as if you have your 'don't auto-format' option ticked :-(

That's only intended for people like me who are pasting in already-formatted HTML imported from elsewhere (if I'm putting a story chapter on Dreamwidth, for example) - it prevents all the paragraphs getting double spacing etc.

But under normal circumstances, pasting in plain text should have precisely the same effect as typing it directly into the text box -- after all, there is physically no way for a web browser to tell the difference.

(The other potential issue that occurs to me is a question of line endings, but since DOS/Windows operates the 'belt and braces' approach of using *both* potential terminating characters as versus the old Mac/Unix divide, I'd have expected double-spacing rather than disappearing line breaks...)
