I've never seen 'Alison' spelt with two Ls, either, let alone thought of that as a stereotypical girl's name.
Ada, Emma and Eva are very 'period', though.

Me neither. It sounds dated, even for the 1920s. I wouldn't have thought of Joyce as a 1950s name, either.
Then again, I don't think I've ever met anyone with the same name as me...
Alison-with-one-L is at #113 for the same year, which is odd, since I was under the impression it was the more common spelling!
